As like-minded brands in the outdoor industry, we’ve joined together in an initiative to use our bodies for good. We invite you to join us in running The Perfect Mile, a global virtual run supporting the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. Inspired by the legacy of Sir Roger Bannister, who ran his Perfect Mile in May after a day’s work in the hospital where he was a trainee doctor, we’re encouraging runners everywhere to run a solo mile. This isn’t a race, but rather a global movement of runners focusing on a goal that is collective, not individual. Here’s how it will work:

Why the Mile?
On May 6th, 1954 a junior doctor left his work at a hospital in London and took a mid-morning train from Paddington to Oxford. That afternoon, he ran a mile faster than any human had ever run before. Sir Roger Bannister’s sub-4:00 mile has been called “Perfect,” and certainly the achievement remains legendary not for the speed at which he ran, but for what it meant to post-WWII Britain and the world.
For many of us, running has provided a much-needed escape in a time of great uncertainty. It’s a dose of routine in a chaotic week, a moment of mental silence amid the noise, a chance to move and to disconnect. The question we’ve been asking ourselves on our daily runs is: how can we use the power of our sport to support those in our community who are at the front lines of the fight against the novel coronavirus?
100% of proceeds from the Perfect Mile will be donated to support the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. In addition, signing up and participating in the run will grant you access to a digital Athlete Pack with special offers from Tracksmith, WHOOP, Ciele, Hyperice, ROKA, and Linden X Two, as well as commemorative digital stickers and more. We hope you’ll join us and share your plans with #PerfectMile on social media.
Perfection, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. Whether you’re able to run four laps on the track in 59 seconds each, or whether you make it 9 times around your block at sunrise, there’s a simplicity and beauty in the distance that’s both achievable and iconic. In running this Perfect Mile together, we hope to once again use the collective spirit of our sport to drive meaningful good for those working on the front lines.
